Munich has the highest life expectancy of any German city. High incomes, dense medical care, the Isar as a running track and the Alps an hour away make the city an open-air gym with screening attached.

cinalia suggests
- The Isar as your daily route: 14 kilometers of river bank without traffic lights, for running, cycling and swimming in summer.
- Mountains as a weekend ritual: in one hour you are on a hiking trail, zone 2 training with a view.
- Use the doctor density: check-ups, skin and bowel screening are quicker to book here than in most German cities.
- Beer garden with rules: radler and pretzels are fine, the roast pork every week is not.
Life expectancy and care
With 82.6 years Munich leads the German cities, almost two years ahead of Berlin or Leipzig. Part is income and education, part is care: 3.9 outpatient doctors per 1,000 residents, university hospitals and a high screening rate. Whoever lives here has short distances to cardiology, dermatology and gastroenterology and uses them.
Air, green space and water
The Isar meadows, the English Garden and the Olympic Park give the city 32 percent green and water. The Isar is running track, cycle path and bathing river in summer, and it pulls foehn air from the mountains into the city. The fine dust value of 9.5 micrograms sits below the EU target for 2030 but nearly double the WHO guideline; along the Mittlerer Ring it is clearly higher.
Movement and daily life
A quarter of Munich residents are in a sports club, 18 percent of trips are cycled, and the mountains are an hour away by train. Swimming, hiking, skiing and cycling belong to all classes. The sun shines 1,900 hours a year, more than in Hamburg or Amsterdam, which helps vitamin D and mood.
What the city gets right
Movement is never far in Munich: river, park, mountain. Whoever lives and runs away from the main traffic arteries, takes the Isar as a route and the mountains as the weekend gets the German best.
