A low white wave on the riverbank that you can walk over, next to a preserved power station
The roof, which is a public ramp with the Tagus on one side and the city on the other
Amanda Levete's building opened in 2016: a low curved volume clad in three-dimensional white tiles that you walk over rather than around, with the gallery underneath and the river directly in front. Next to it the Central Tejo power station has been preserved with its turbine hall and boilers intact and is part of the same ticket.
The combination is the point. An art gallery, an industrial museum and a public roof terrace in one place, on the stretch of riverbank that Lisbon reclaimed for walking.
