Two cities, eight measures
City Duel
Put two culture capitals against each other across museums, stage, music, contemporary, festivals, nightlife, value and access.
Every city in the guide is scored on eight measures, from the depth of its museums to how easy it is to get into anything on a Tuesday. The duel puts two of them side by side and shows where each one wins.
Underneath the chart the tool compares actual prices: a museum ticket, an opera seat, a club entry, a drink and dinner, so you can see what a weekend really costs in each.
Questions
Where do the scores come from?
They are our editorial judgement, based on the number and quality of venues, the depth of the programme, price levels and how accessible the city is to a visitor without local knowledge.
Is the culture index an average?
It is a weighted score: museums, stage and music count double, value and access count once.
