Basílica de la Sagrada Família

A basilica under construction since 1882, finally nearing its tallest tower

The nave at midday, when the stained glass throws colour across the stone forest

Gaudí took over the project in 1883, worked on it for forty-three years, lived on the site at the end and is buried in the crypt. Construction continues, funded entirely by tickets and donations, and the central Tower of Jesus Christ is now approaching completion, which will make it the tallest church in the world.

The interior is the part that surprises people who expected a tourist trap. Gaudí modelled the columns on trees, they branch at the top, and between eleven and one the stained glass washes the whole forest in colour from one side.
