Eye Filmmuseum

A white origami building across the water, holding the national film archive

Landmark Amsterdam, Noord€€€€

The basement, where you can pull a film from the collection and watch it alone in a pod

The Dutch film archive moved across the IJ in 2012 into a building that looks like a folded sheet of paper landing on the north bank. Four cinemas, a permanent exhibition on the history of the moving image and a terrace restaurant with the best view of the old city from anywhere in Amsterdam.

The part most visitors miss is downstairs: individual viewing pods where you can call up titles from the archive and watch them by yourself, included in the exhibition ticket.
