Glastonbury Festival

A working dairy farm that becomes the fifth-largest settlement in the county for five days

Late June About 400 pounds plus booking fee, camping included

Started in 1970 with an entry price of one pound and a free bottle of milk, and now a five-day event across nine hundred acres with more than a hundred stages, of which the music is perhaps half. The late-night areas in the south-east corner are effectively a separate festival that only opens after midnight.

It is muddy, enormous, and sells out in under an hour to people who registered with a photograph months earlier.
