Seoul Arts Center
A concert hall shaped like a traditional hat, plus an opera house and a calligraphy museum
The concert hall, with a vineyard layout and a roof modelled on a Korean gat
A cultural complex south of the river opened in 1993 with an opera house, a concert hall, galleries and a museum of calligraphy, all on one campus. The concert hall roof takes its shape from a gat, the traditional Korean horsehair hat, and the acoustics inside are the best in the country.
The Korean National Opera and Ballet perform here, ticket prices are moderate and the standard is high enough that international touring companies programme against it rather than around it.
