Tokyo National Museum

Japan's oldest and largest museum, holding the national treasures in six buildings

Museum Tokyo, Ueno€€€

The Honkan sword gallery, and the rotating national treasure room

Founded in 1872 and now holding about a hundred and twenty thousand objects, including the largest group of designated national treasures anywhere. The Honkan building presents Japanese art chronologically, the Toyokan covers the rest of Asia and the Horyuji gallery holds treasures from the temple in Nara in near darkness.

Rotation is constant because textiles, scrolls and screens can only be shown for weeks at a time. Whatever you see will be partly different in three months.
