The royal playhouse on a boardwalk over the harbour, with a foyer that is a public promenade

The wooden deck around the building, open to anyone, day and night

The Royal Danish Theatre's drama house opened in 2008 on a pier, cantilevered over the water, with a wooden boardwalk running right around it that belongs to the city rather than the theatre. People walk it, sit on it and swim off it in summer, whether or not they have a ticket.

Three stages inside, a repertoire of Danish and international drama, and a handful of surtitled performances each season aimed squarely at visitors.
