Gallerie dell'Accademia

Venetian painting from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, in the school that trained it

Museum Venice, Dorsoduro€€€€

Carpaccio's Saint Ursula cycle and Bellini's altarpieces in sequence

The city's own painting, kept in the building that taught it. Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Tiepolo hang in rooms that cover four centuries of a school that did light differently from Florence and knew it.

It is the least crowded major museum in the city, partly because most visitors have already exhausted themselves on churches, and it holds Leonardo's Vitruvian Man, which is shown only rarely for the usual reason.
