The main hall, with adjustable acoustics and a wall of windows behind the stage
Opened in 2005 for contemporary and early music, the two repertoires that the traditional halls treat as awkward. The main auditorium has movable acoustic panels that can be tuned from dry to reverberant depending on what is being played, and a glass wall behind the stage that puts the harbour in the background of every concert.
The jazz venue Bimhuis is built into the same structure as a black box cantilevered over the water, which makes this one address for two entirely different audiences.
