Albertina

A Habsburg palace holding a million prints and drawings, including the hare

Museum Vienna, Innere Stadt€€€€

Dürer's Young Hare, shown rarely and briefly because paper does not forgive light

Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen started collecting works on paper in the 1770s and the holding is now about a million prints and sixty thousand drawings, which cannot be displayed permanently because light destroys them. What you see instead is a rotating selection, a strong modern collection including Monet to Picasso, and the state rooms of the palace itself.

The Dürer works, the hare and the praying hands among them, appear only occasionally and are announced well in advance. If they are showing while you are in Vienna, change your plans.
